Barclays Day of the Dead Firewalk 2023

My Story
This November, I am fundraising for Maggie's by taking part in a Firewalk at our Glasgow Campus!
One in two people will develop cancer in their lifetime. It will take just seven minutes for each of these people to receive a cancer diagnosis. In those seven minutes someones whole world can fall apart. People struggle to comprehend the news they have received; their mind is flooded with questions and they feel overwhelmed.
Built in the grounds of 24 NHS cancer hospitals, Maggies centres offer free practical, financial and emotional support to people with cancer and their loved ones. Their centres are designed to be more like a home than a hospital, providing a calm and friendly place where people with cancer can find the hope, determination and resources they need to cope with one of the toughest challenges any of us is likely to have to face.
Maggies cancer support specialists, psychologists and benefits advisors help people to manage the extreme stress, anxiety and worry caused by a cancer diagnosis. Support includes practical ways of dealing with a diagnosis, emotions during treatment, concerns around finances, emotions after treatment, dying and emotions and fear of cancer returning. Everything they do is to increase the wellbeing of people with cancer and their loved ones, helping them take back control when cancer turns life upside down.
The vital funds raised by Barclays colleagues will help Maggie's offer thousands of sessions of practical and emotional support to older people with cancer across Scotland. There is an urgent need for this: nearly two thirds of cancer diagnoses occur in the over 65s and over one third of the people who visit Maggie's right now are in this group.
Please help us make a difference today by making a donation or signing up to take part if you are a Barclays colleague!
