The Lane's Bake and Brew for Maggie's
Gemma & Matthew
My Story
Gemma’s mum has been through a lot over the last few years. After having breast cancer twice, and with all the operations, treatments and medications that go with it, at the end of last year Jackie was hit with another cancer diagnosis. This time it was not only a different cancer, but an incredibly rare Angiosarcoma. So rare that less than 50 people in the whole of the UK were diagnosed with it last year! This year has been filled with lots of trips to and from Nottingham, a trek, but they have the most incredible Sarcoma team there. Two surgeries later and although there is a long way to go, with years of monitoring and testing, she’s doing incredibly well.
In Nottingham, there is a Maggie’s Cancer Centre, which has been a great support to the family. They have provided someone to talk to, advice and even a quiet cuppa in a relaxing and welcoming space for Gemma and her Dad, Keith, whist Jackie was in surgery. They also run a monthly Sarcoma support group, which is a collaboration with Sarcoma UK. Sarcoma UK is another charity we hadn’t really heard of. In fact we didn’t really know anything about sarcomas to be truthful. In addition to the support provided, Sarcoma UK are working hard to raise awareness, fund vital research and campaign to improve the standard of care and treatments available to sarcoma patients.
Both charities really are incredible, so we would like to invite you to pop over for a cuppa and cake, to help us fundraise for them both and the fabulous work they do - also to celebrate Gemma’s Mum, as we are so very proud of her!!
If you can't make it on the day, any donations to Maggie's on this page are greatly appreciated.
