Every Step for Someone Facing Cancer
James Saunders
My Story
I’m raising money for Maggie’s because their work hits incredibly close to home. Cancer doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed—it shakes entire families, changes lives in an instant, and leaves people searching for strength they never knew they’d need.
Maggie’s is there for those moments.
They offer warmth, understanding, and a safe space for anyone affected by cancer—patients, families, friends—completely free of charge. They help people breathe again when the world feels overwhelming. And because they receive no government funding, every single donation genuinely matters. It keeps their doors open. It keeps hope alive.
That’s why I’m doing this.
From Saturday 2nd May to Wednesday 7th May 2026, I’ll be walking over 70 miles along The Cumbrian Way, from Ulverston to Carlisle. It’s a tough route across the heart of the Lake District—five days of steep climbs, long miles, four nights camping, and carrying everything I need on my back.
It will be challenging, emotional, and no doubt exhausting. But it’s nothing compared to what people face every single day when cancer enters their lives. If this walk helps even one person or family find the support they desperately need, then every step will be worth it.
